Assessments
Comprehensive, Evidence-Based Assessments for OCD, ADHD, Autism, and Learning Differences (Ages 6 & Up) for Neurodivergent Individuals.
At the core of our approach is thorough, personalized assessment, recognizing that each individual’s neurodivergent experience is unique. We provide evaluations for ages 6 and up, going beyond surface-level screening to deliver meaningful, research-backed insights that guide diagnosis, treatment, and support.
Autism Assessment
Our diagnostic approach goes beyond standard screenings to identify autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in individuals with complex or subtle presentations. We use the ADOS-2, SRS-2, expert clinical observation, and additional autism assessments to ensure a thorough, strengths-based evaluation.
Social communication and interaction abilities
Sensory processing sensitivities (sound, touch, etc.)
Repetitive behaviors and restricted interests
Cognitive and language development
Adaptive functioning (daily living skills)
Social reciprocity and joint attention
Learning Disability Assessment
We specialize in comprehensive learning disability assessments, including dyslexia testing and evaluations for related learning differences. Using validated tools such as the WIAT, KTEA, and Woodcock-Johnson, we assess cognitive and academic abilities to create a clear profile of strengths and struggles.
Academic achievement testing (reading, math, writing)
Cognitive processing abilities (memory, reasoning, processing speed)
Verbal and non-verbal reasoning abilities
Attention and focus as related to academic tasks
Phonological processing and decoding skills
Social-emotional functioning related to academic struggles
Screening for specific learning disabilities, including:
Dyslexia (reading difficulties)
Dysgraphia (writing difficulties)
Dyscalculia (math difficulties)
Provides individualized recommendations for IEPs, 504 Plans, and accommodations
ADHD Assessment
Our holistic ADHD evaluations provide a clear understanding of executive functioning, attention, and self-regulation across different life areas. We incorporate validated tools like the CAARS-2, DIVA 2.0, BRIEF, and child-friendly ADHD screenings when applicable.
Attention span and focus abilities
Impulsivity and hyperactivity
Executive functioning skills (planning, organization, time management)
Working memory and cognitive processing
Emotional regulation and self-control
Impact of ADHD on academic and social functioning
OCD Assessment
OCD is often misunderstood and misdiagnosed, leading many individuals to struggle without the proper support. Our structured assessment process ensures an accurate diagnosis and a clear treatment direction, distinguishing OCD from overlapping conditions like anxiety, autism, ADHD, and PTSD. We utilize gold-standard diagnostic tools, including the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), along with in-depth clinical interviews and screening measures to fully understand symptom presentation. Our evaluations assess:
Obsessive thoughts and intrusive images
Compulsive behaviors or mental rituals
OCD subtypes and themes (e.g., contamination, harm, "just right," relationship OCD)
Severity and frequency of OCD symptoms
Cognitive distortions related to OCD (e.g., overestimating threat, thought-action fusion, excessive responsibility)
Impact on daily functioning and quality of life
Avoidance behaviors and safety strategies
Insight into OCD symptoms and ability to distinguish them from reality
Co-occurring conditions and differential diagnosis screening

Not sure what you or your child need? We can help!
If you're unsure where to start, we can guide you in choosing the right ADHD, autism, or learning disability evaluation. We often begin with tools like the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-V) and the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT) to get a broad understanding of cognitive abilities and academic skills.
The WISC-V helps assess intellectual functioning, including verbal comprehension, working memory, processing speed, and problem-solving skills.
The WIAT evaluates academic achievement in areas like reading, writing, and math, helping to identify strengths, challenges, and potential learning differences.
By starting with these foundational assessments, we can create a personalized and cost-effective evaluation plan tailored to your specific needs. Our goal is to ensure you're getting the most relevant and comprehensive insights without unnecessary testing.
Understanding the Connection: OCD, ADHD, Autism, and the Importance of Assessment
OCD, ADHD, and Autism are interconnected through their shared neurobiological underpinnings and overlapping traits, often referred to as neurodivergence. These conditions involve differences in brain structure and function, particularly in areas related to executive functioning, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and attention.
How They Interconnect:
Executive Functioning Challenges: Difficulty with organization, planning, and impulse control can appear in all three conditions, albeit in different ways (e.g., rigid routines in Autism, hyperfocus in ADHD, or compulsive behaviors in OCD).
Sensory Sensitivities: Overlapping sensory processing differences can contribute to heightened anxiety or discomfort, common in Autism and sometimes present in OCD and ADHD.
Repetitive Thoughts and Behaviors: While OCD is characterized by intrusive thoughts and compulsions, both ADHD and Autism can involve repetitive behaviors or hyperfixation, which may sometimes look similar.
Intolerance of Uncertainty: Difficulty managing uncertainty is a core issue in OCD and can contribute to rigidity in Autism and impulsivity or restlessness in ADHD.
Why Assessment is Valuable:
Clarifying Diagnosis: Symptoms often overlap, making it difficult to differentiate one condition from another without a thorough assessment. A comprehensive evaluation can uncover whether someone has one condition, a combination, or related traits.
Tailored Support: Knowing the specific diagnosis allows for individualized treatment and support. For example, OCD often benefits from Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), while ADHD might require executive functioning strategies, and Autism might benefit from sensory and social accommodations.
Reducing Misdiagnosis: Misdiagnosis is common, particularly in women and marginalized groups, where symptoms may present atypically. Proper assessment ensures the right interventions are provided.
Empowerment Through Understanding: Assessment helps individuals understand themselves better, fostering self-compassion and providing tools to navigate their unique neurodivergence.
This interconnectedness underscores the importance of neuroaffirming, comprehensive assessments that consider the whole person, not just isolated symptoms.

As a therapist who works with clients experiencing OCD and other neurodivergent/neurospicy/neuromagical abilities, I find it's difficult to advocate for yourself if you don't know what's going on or what you need. Knowledge-of-self is a great first step to discovering how to advocate for your needs in a neurotypical society. Through psychological assessments for Autism, OCD, and ADHD, a person may gain knowledge of themselves and their needs to be better equipped to advocate for themself in work, school, and social environments. This is a safe space for LGBTQ+, including nonbinary, genderqueer, and genderfluid folks. Schedule an appointment today - let's work together.
